The Tree of Blindness

Half of the world’s blindness is due to cataract and a lack of glasses. This means that there are millions of people worldwide who have blindness that can be easily treated.

While Sight For All works towards the elimination of cataract and refractive error, much of our focus is on the higher hanging fruit on the Tree of Blindness. These are eye conditions including glaucoma, acquired retinal diseases, corneal conditions and childhood blindness.

Sight For All trains general ophthalmologists to become specialists to treat patients with these eye conditions. Furthermore, we provide the specialist equipment needed at the hospitals and regional eye units, and we raise awareness among eye health professionals and the community so that these potentially blinding conditions can be detected early and treated as soon as possible.
