The impact of childhood blindness is similar to that of cataract blindness, due to the fact that children have to live with their blindness for many more years. Sight For All has been tackling childhood blindness through training and equipping paediatric ophthalmologists in our eight partner countries, including the first in Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. One of our Visionaries helping in the fight against childhood blindness is New Zealand based Paediatric Ophthalmologist, Dr Justin Mora. Dr Mora has participated in Sight For All’s Paediatric In-Country Fellowship Programs in Cambodia and Lao.
“Sight For All's focus on training local doctors to provide high standards of care in their own communities is, I believe, the most effective way to reduce blindness in developing countries. I love my visits to Laos to teach paediatric ophthalmology as I know that I am making a difference not just for the children I see while I am there but, by virtue of the training I provide, to future generations as well.”– Dr Justin Mora, July 2015
