Collaborative, evidence based research is a vital part of Sight For All’s sight saving work in our eight partner countries. Sight For All has conducted childhood blindness studies in five countries in Asia and in three of those five; the leading cause of blindness was measles, a disease that is totally preventable. While conducting the childhood blindness study in Lao in 2013, the Sight For All team met Boumlai, a young man and resident of the School For the Blind in Vientiane. Boumlai’s had never been tested for spectacles and when prescribed with glasses, his low vision was able to be corrected. The reaction that Boumlai has when he can see the people and objects around him when trying on a pair of trial frames for the first time with Adelaide based Optometrist, Andy Griffiths is simply breathtaking.
