RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation Australia welcomes Sight For All to the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) program with the formal endorsement of its inaugural Reflect Rap.
This Reflect RAP enables Sight For All to deepen its understanding of its sphere of influence and the unique contribution it can make to lead progress across the five dimensions of reconciliation: race relations; equality and equity; institutional integrity; unity; and historical acceptance. Getting these first steps right will ensure the sustainability of future RAPs and reconciliation initiatives, and provide meaningful impact toward Australia’s reconciliation journey.

Message from the Board of Directors
As an eye-health led and research focused non-government organisation, Sight For All Board Directors, Visionaries and team members are dedicated to lowering eye health outcome disparities both in Australia and worldwide.
Since colonisation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have disproportionately experienced poorer health outcomes compared to non-Indigenous Australians and are three times more likely to experience vision impairment and vision loss than non-Indigenous counterparts.
Eye diseases and vision problems are the most common long-term health conditions reported by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and in 2018-2019 it was recorded that 38% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reported eye or sight problems.
Of the 15,000 Indigenous Australians living with vision impairment or blindness aged over 40, the most common cause of vision loss was uncorrected refractive error (61%), cataract (20%) and diabetic retinopathy (5.2%) ; these conditions are treatable and preventable with early diagnosis and improved access to culturally appropriate care.
Sight For All’s organisational Vision is ‘to eliminate treatable blindness’ in Australia and abroad. Through our inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, Sight For All is able to specifically enhance equity in eye health access for First Nations people.
As a Board, we are strongly committed to actions traversing relationships, respect, opportunities and governance. We are proud to embark on our reconciliation action journey.
