Dr James Muecke

Dr James Muecke AM co-founded Sight For All in 2009, and was the organisation’s inaugural Chair until November 2022. Dr Muecke has worked tirelessly throughout his career in blindness prevention, ophthalmic research and education in the developing world. It was Dr Muecke’s vision, tenacity and hard work that created Sight For All.

Dr Muecke was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 2012 and was South Australian of the Year 2020. In January 2020, Dr Muecke was announced as 2020 Australian of the Year.

Dr Muecke became Sight For All’s Patron in November 2022. Working beside Dr Muecke since the organisation was established has been his wife, Mena Muecke. Mena was Sight For All’s Volunteer Events Director for 14 years, creating several iconic and unique events and raising more than $1million to support Australian and International projects. Mena was awarded an OAM in 2019 for her services to the community through charitable initiatives.
