Trek For Sight 2018

A number of Vision 1000 Members were part of the Trek For Sight team that trekked in Bhutan in April this year and raised close to $60,000.

Facts:

  • The funding raised purchased a Fundus Fluroescein Angiography Camera donated to the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital in Thimphu, Bhutan.
  • The camera is used to detect blinding retinal conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Support for the purchase was provided by supplier Heidelberg Engineering.
  • Trek For Sight members were: Garry Davis, Donna Davis, James Muecke, Mena Muecke, Jody Rowe, Melissa Slattery, John Stokes, Marie-Louise Stokes plus trek leader Katie Sarah.
  • The team trekked 82km, ascended 4440m, descended 4382m and reached an altitude of 4890m.
  • The trek took 6 days.
  • The camera was installed by Mr Carey Hazelbank from Heidelberg Engineering in early June and enabled the first ever fundus fluorescein angiography procedure to be undertaken in Bhutan.
