APAO Gateway Project Newsletter June 2016

The APAO Gateway Project 2016 is a new initiative of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). The Gateway Project aims to reduce the prevalence of visual disability and blindness in the region through the creation of partnerships between countries and organisations. This year, Lao has been selected as the focus country to strengthen their eye health care services.

Heart breaking, but life saving

Adelaide based filmmaker, Lara Damiani, captured the story of Vietnamese mother Pham Minh Hiep and her baby Chi when she travelled recently with Sight For All Chairman, Dr James Muecke. Chi has retinoblastoma, a rare but deadly eye cancer and has just had surgery to remove her right eye, a procedure that has ultimately saved her life. Lara's moving story recounts her experience in Vietnam.
