Upon training the ophthalmologists in their area of sub-specialty, it is important that they have the equipment they need to effectively treat patients. Much of the equipment that is needed is specific to the sub-specialty area. Sight For All plays an important role in ensuring that the equipment that is needed to treat patients is provided.
Paediatric ophthalmology is a good example of this. Sight For All has established and equipped the first paediatric ophthalmology units in four of our eight partner countries. This has included: Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Lao. In early 2016 Sight For All will be taking paediatric equipment to Bangladesh, allowing for the establishment of this country’s first ophthalmic paediatric ophthalmology unit. Thanks to the support of the Australian Government, in late 2015, Sight For All took equipment to Mandalay in Myanmar so that the second paediatric unit for this country of 60 million people could established.
The provision of infrastructure is made possible through the support of individuals, family trusts and the Australian Government.
